Welcome to the knitalong information for knitting a Morris dancing mouse during the month of May 2021.
We’ll be using Alan Dart’s “May Day Mice” pattern, which is available on his website here along with a list of materials: https://www.alandart.co.uk/product/holidays/may-day-mice/
A download of the pattern costs about $3.60, payable with PayPal. Please support creators and buy your own copy.
The suggested yarns for a 6-inch-tall mouse are DK weight. The recommended needle size is 3mm, which is about a US 2.5. If you’re using yarns from your personal stash, pick a needle size that gives you a fairly dense fabric.
You should have experience casting on, casting off, increasing and decreasing. The mice are knitted flat and mattress-seamed together. Knitting little critters is fun and rewarding … but it takes some patience. No worries, though, we’ll all help each other get through the tricky parts and brainstorm ways to customize the mice to match your team’s kit and dance style.
There’s a Facebook group for between-meeting chat and questions.
Don’t forget to plan a photo shoot starring your whiskered Morris dancing mouse to show off during the Ale! And of course, a mouse stand for all who will in 2022.
